I´M KATSIKAS

El problema social del siglo XXI se aleja más de las fronteras de la política. Empieza a alcanzar límites morales y dice mucho sobre el valor de la vida de las personas solo dependiendo de su estabilidad política. Me refiero a miles de personas que están abandonando sus hogares, costumbres y recuerdos para emprender un largo viaje de miedos, inseguridades y sobornos solo para llegar a tierra de nadie, donde sus esperanzas chocan contra un muro blindado llamado Europa. Su destino final se convierte en un limbo terrible, confinado sin tiempo ni privilegios, en lugares llamados campos de refugiados. Todo consiste en su traslado a zonas «habilitadas» en las que esperan un «nuevo» futuro, donde se ven obligados a instalarse en zonas de «acogida» (campamentos o edificios antiguos) en las afueras de Atenas. Para ilustrar este problema he realizado una serie de fotomontajes en blanco y negro a partir de las imágenes de quienes se encuentran más vulnerables en esta precaria situación de la humanidad, dándoles mucha más importancia, colocándolas frente a un lienzo en blanco con pinceladas de la realidad. , la dura realidad que están viviendo ahora.

The social problem of the XXI century goes further away of politics borders. It starts to reach moral limits and it tells a lot about the value of people lifes just depending on their politic stability. I`m talking about thousand of people that are leaving their homes, costums and memories to start a long journey of fears, insecurities and briberies only to get to no men’s land, where their hopes crash into an armored wall called Europe. Their final destination turns into a terrible limbo, confined without time or privileges, in places called refugee camps. It all consists in their transfer to “enabled” areas in where they wait for a “new” future, where they are forced to settle in «welcome» zones (camps or old buildings) in the outskirts of Athenes.

To illustrate this problem I have made a series of black and white photomontages from the images of those who are most vulnerable in this precarious situation of humanity, giving them much more importance, placing them in front of a white canvas with brush-strokes of reality, the hard reality that they are now living.
